Rosalie & baby Alika

Rosalie & baby AlikaRosalie was found on the ground, disorientated and covered in ticks. She was only a young koala at two years of age and in otherwise good health, so the reason for her condition was perplexing. A veterinary checkup indicated she had very poor sight for unknown reasons. With such poor sight she would not be able to survive in the wild. She also had a small bundle in her pouch – a little koala named Alika.

Rosalie was placed in care to raise her pouch young with the hope that he did not suffer from the same condition that she did. All went well and after 12months of care Alika was returned to the wild, a very healthy koala. Rosalie could not be released but during her time in care had settled well to a life of captivity. Friends of the Koala applied to the relevant authorities for permission to keep her as an educational animal at our Care Centre in Lismore. Thankfully this permission was granted so Rosalie now spends part of her day teaching visitors all about koalas.

Koalas like Rosalie and Alika thank you for being part of the Support a Koala Program as in Alika’s case it has enabled him to successfully return to the wild and for Rosalie it has given her an opportunity to be able to teach visitors about the many facets of the koala.
