Ricki

Ricki was only 553g when she was found hanging from a barbed wire fence in South Grafton. She should have still been in her mothers pouch. She was immediately transferred to an experienced koala home carer for a full assessment.

Visits to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Hospital indicated the wounds were managable in a home care situation rather than having to place her in Hospital care. She was perscribed appropriate medications.

Ricki spent the next few weeks waking her home carers at all hours asking for her milk which she was fed around the clock. He wounds healed slowly although they required several vet visits to ensure infection had not set in.

Ricki is now living outside with other koalas of her age. She is now 1.5kg which is three times the size she was when she came into care but still a long way from a weight and age where she can cope in the wild on her own.
