Mothball

MothballMothball was handed over to Friends of the Koala by a member of the public who was attempting to hand raise him without having any knowledge or experience in this area. His name reflects the condition of his fur which was poor due to an in-correct diet. It was lucky they decided to hand him over to an experienced carer when they did otherwise his prognosis may not have been good.

A veterinary checkup showed he was malnourished and suspected to have pneumonia. Mothball was placed into care with a Friends of the Koala home carer who has extensive experience in hand raising koala infants. He was paired up with other koalas to ensure he will learn the normal behaviours of a wild koala. It has been a slow recovery to improve his condition, as he has had to grow a completely new coat of fur ,which takes several months. His weight gains and health are other-wise improved.

Mothball will be in care for approximately eight months before being released back into the wild. The care he receives will ensure he has the best possible chance of survival.
