Friends of the Koala receives very little government assistance. Membership subscriptions and donations are heavily relied on to fund the needs of the koalas in care.

Members receive a quarterly newsletter - Treetops. Treetops has information and updates on koalas in care and upcoming events such as training courses, fundraisers and social functions. There are informative articles on koalas and what is going on in the koala care front.

For insurance purposes and because FOK operates under a licence issued by NSW National Parks and Wildlife anyone wishing to become a volunteer must become a member.
