Koalas are classed as a vulnerable species in NSW. This is one step away from being classed as endangered, which is one step away from becoming extinct.

You or your class can help stop koala numbers decreasing.

  • join Friends of the Koala. The $20 membership fee will go towards helping conserve koalas and you will be kept informed on what is happening on the koala front through the newsletter Treetops.
  • support an individual koala through our Support a Koala program .
  • organise a fundraising activity at your school - it costs over $20 a day to provide the medications and supplements needed to rehabilitate a sick koala, to build a suitable enclosure costs over $500 in materials alone. All funds raised from fundraising activities will go directly towards a project or koala of your choice.
  • arrange a visit to your school from a Friends of the Koala volunteer.
  • arrange a visit to the Friends of the Koala Care Centre in Lismore - all visits must be booked so that numbers can be catered for.
  • consult with Friends of the Koala on other activities such as tree plantings and propagation and how this could fit into your school plan.
  • purchase any native plants for school grounds from the Friends of the Koala nursery .
  • submit any artwork or koala related projects to the website and promote your school at the same time.
  • learn about ways to live in harmony with koalas such as keeping dogs contained.
  • plant a tree and watch it grow.
