Atticus
It was a busy day that day with 4 koalas in total coming into care, 2 of whom were from the same property - Atticus and Andronicus. One of our members, with the help of the property owner, had been watching Andronicus for a few days as he had cystitis or wet bottom. While sick he was not sick enough to stay low in the trees so was proving difficult to catch. The keenful eye of the property owner had spotted him low. A call was made to the Friends of the Koala Hotline and a rescuer immediately sent. Luckily they were able to catch Andronicus this time. While there, they noticed Atticus. Atticus has conjunctivitis so his eyes were crusty and he was having difficultly opening them. He was in a position to be caught so the rescuer soon brought the two of them into the Care Centre. Unfortunately a full vet check showed Andronicus had gone into renal failure - an incurable condition. It is some consolation that he was quietly put to sleep rather than having to suffer any longer. Atticus, a young male, not yet fully grown will have a happier outcome. His conjunctivitis is fairly mild and he is currently responding well to treatments. He shares his run with George, an older male, also with conjunctivitis who came in from Dunoon a few days later.
