Kaytoo and Nina Released Back to the Wild We released Kaytoo and her backyoung Nina a little while ago now. Kaytoo, with Nina on her back was so frantic to get out of the carry-cage, as soon as Rick opened the top and tilted it, they were up the trunk like bats out of hell and quickly moved around the other side of the trunk away from us No pausing and looking back for these two, which is quite different behaviour to most koalas we've released.
Kaytoo and Nina needed to be trapped in order to be brought into care. Although moving high in the treetops we could see through the glasses that Kaytoo had wet bottom. Nina probably had it as well but didn't display the symptoms until she was in care. Whilst it may have been a stressful six weeks for both, getting them so early meant their cystitis could be treated successfully. It was a few days before we saw them again, in the late afternoon catching the last rays of sun at the top of our most popular flooded gum. We weren't sure at first because we could only see one. A few days after that, they were both back in the release tree, low enough to try for a snap.
Next morning they were gone again and we haven't seen them since.
