Stevie
Luckily he was unscathed from the car hit and settled well into care with his new mum, carer Wendy. Because he was so little he needed to be fed a special milk formula every 3 hours including right through the night. Koalas do not tolerate lactose so cannot be fed cows' milk. Because they are nocturnal the joeys tend to feed much better during the night than the day. Not so good for us humans who are not so nocturnal. Stevie grew very quickly and it was not long before he was starting to climb a makeshift tree on his carers verandah. At 2kg he had a slight setback when he developed cystitis. This required a 45 days course of antibiotics for treatment, something neither he or his carer enjoyed. Now that he is fully recovered he is starting to get some real climbing skills in a pre release tree. Stevie has since had a slow release back into the wild. He has been spotted back at his release site since the gate to his enclosure was opened. Now a beautiful, big, healthy boy we wish him well out there.
